Emily Maxey
Lead Teacher
With 17 years of experience in early childhood education, Emily Maxey brings passion, energy, and a deep love for learning to her Pre-K classroom. A lifelong learner herself, Emily earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Early Childhood Education from Piedmont University. Her journey as an educator began early—she knew from childhood that she wanted to teach, inspired by the teachers she loved and the joy she found in school. Today, she strives to pass that same joy on to her students, making their first school experiences both exciting and memorable.
Emily cherishes the “firsts” that Pre-K brings—first time writing a name, reading a word, or counting higher than ever before. Her favorite part of the day is small group time, where she gets to connect deeply with her students and celebrate their growth. With a photographic memory, she proudly remembers every child she's taught—names, classroom colors, even car tags! Her love for Downs Preschool runs deep; she first interned in Ms. Terri’s classroom in 2003 and has never looked back.
Outside of school, Emily enjoys spending time with her two sons, going to church, and catching up with friends over a meal. Her students know her as a warm and enthusiastic teacher who truly adores them, and she hopes each one leaves her class knowing they can accomplish anything they set their minds to.
