Tricia Barnhart
Lead Pre-K Teacher
With over 17 years of experience in early childhood education, Tricia Barnhart brings dedication, expertise, and a deep understanding of how young children learn best. She began her career as a Special Education paraprofessional for nine years, then transitioned into teaching, including a year as a substitute teacher in Oconee County. Tricia holds a Bachelor of Education degree in Early Childhood from the University of Georgia, with certifications in both Special Education General Curriculum and Adapted Curriculum.
Tricia is inspired by the rapid growth and development of young learners and believes that early childhood is a vital time to build confidence, curiosity, and a love for learning. Her classroom is a safe and supportive space where children are encouraged to explore ideas, express themselves, and engage in thoughtful discussions. She incorporates social-emotional learning through daily conversations and Second Step lessons, helping children build empathy and resilience from an early age.
As a long-time member of the Oconee County school community, Tricia has served in multiple schools, including Rocky Branch and Malcom Bridge Elementary. Her connection to the school runs deep—all three of her children attended Downs Preschool, and she has proudly taught at the school for over 4 years.
Outside the classroom, Tricia enjoys spending time with her family and pets, watching crime shows, and relaxing at home. She is a proud mom to two sons and a daughter—all now grown—and shares her home with two dogs, a cat, chickens, and even a turtle! Tricia values the school’s close-knit, small-town feel and works hard to keep open communication with families through emails, newsletters, classroom visits, and special activities.
